Small attends Colonial Williamsburg Institute
SALISBURY, MD ---Dr. Clara L. Small, professor of history in Salisbury University's Fulton School of Liberal Arts, recently attended the Colonial Williamsburg Institute in Williamsburg, VA. The topic of the Institute was "Protest in America: Engineering the Revolution." The program allows scholars and history buffs the opportunity to meet in small groups where they can interact on a more personal basis with authorities in colonial history and to participate in discussions led by noted historians and authors.
The topic was inspired by Thomas Jefferson who declared that "a little revolution is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical ... It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government. God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion."
Major presenters, noted historians and authors, at the conference included Pauline Maier, Gordon S. Wood, Cary Carson and Ronald Hoffman. They discussed the Founding Fathers' tradition of protest and conflict created in the American Revolution, which still affects American society.
