Twenty-one law enforcement officers from Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline and Queen Anne’s counties graduated in the 94th entrance-level class of the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy (ESCJA) operated by Wor-Wic Community College. Money magazine again has named Salisbury University among “The Best Colleges in America. SU received a four-star rating on a five-star scale on Money’s 2025 list of campuses highlighted for excellence. For its rankings, Money begins with all four-year public and private institutions – more than 2,400 schools. It examines educational quality, affordability and student outcomes.

Salisbury Independent: SU to Offer New Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Major This Fall

Salisbury University is offering a new biochemistry and molecular biology major this fall. The major is designed for students interested in careers in the life sciences, pharmaceutical research, genetic research and biotech companies. Through hands-on experience gained through research, coursework and labs with cutting-edge technology, students at SU will be well prepared to take the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) certification exam and ready for careers in the field.

WBOC: SU's Nanticoke River Invasive Fishing Derby Mixes Fishing, Fun and Science

Salisbury University invited anglers of all ages and experience levels to help combat invasive fish species in local waterways during the fourth annual Nanticoke River Invasive Fishing Derby. The annual event, organized by Dr. Noah Bressman, assistant professor of biological studies, encourages the removal of blue catfish and northern snakeheads. The two species are invasive and pose a threat to fish and crustacean populations, including striped bass and blue crabs. A portion of the derby's catch was donated to Bressman’s lab for ongoing studies. Read More

Maryland Department of Natural Resources: SU's ESRGC partners with DNR, NOAA and Others for Maryland Coastal Flood Risk Map

Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recently released the Maryland Coastal Flood Explorer, a user-friendly and interactive map that allows users to visualize predicted high tide flooding, sea-level rise projections, and historic flooding events for all of Maryland’s coastal areas. The tool was created with support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through the Maryland Coastal Zone Management Program and in collaboration with organizations including Salisbury University’s Eastern Shore GIS Cooperative (ESRGC).

Office of Governor Wes Moore: SU BEACON Finding of $16 Billion Economic Contribution to Maryland Highlighted During Governor's Buy Local Cookout

Governor Wes Moore hosted the 2025 Governor's Buy Local Cookout at the Maryland Department of Agriculture, kicking off Maryland Buy Local Week and encouraging Marylanders to take the "Buy Local Challenge" by incorporating at least one locally grown, produced or harvested product into their meals each day. ​According to a 2022 study from Salisbury University's Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON), Maryland’s agriculture and seafood industries contribute more than $16 billion to the state’s economy. WRDE: SU's Museum of Eastern Shore Culture Receives Beach to Bay Heritage Area Grant for Fiber Arts Exhibit

Five organizations on Maryland’s Lower Shore will share nearly $287,000 in grant funding to preserve and celebrate the region’s cultural heritage. Governor Wes Moore announced that the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority awarded 91 matching grants totaling more than $4.6 million statewide to support heritage tourism and economic growth. Local recipients included the Museum of Eastern Shore Culture at Salisbury University, which will install a fiber arts exhibit. Read More
