Big Love opens November 20 at Fulton Hall Theatre

SALISBURY, MD ---Salisbury University's Bobbi Biron Theatre Program presents Big Love from November 20-25, in the Fulton Hall Theatre.

The 2001-02 Obie Award-winner was written by Charles Mee. Inspired by a diverse range of authors, Mee appropriates texts and ideas from philosophy, contemporary literature, current events and popular culture. Big Love examines the meaning of love, commitment and free will in this comic romp filled with intrigue, wrestling and flying wedding cake.

Communication arts faculty member Robert Smith directs the play. Big Love, he says, gives theatre students an opportunity to address elements related to musical theatre in unusual ways.

"Being presentational--addressing the audience directly, blending music and song, wild movement with words, not pretending to be other than theatrical--the play offers the opportunity to produce a more stylized, even symbolic event," Smith said.

The cast includes Bill Baisey, Diana Giattino, Patrick Herb, Kendra Jones, Jason Lang, Priscilla Magalee, Sean Michalski, Lindsey Porter and Alex Scott. Set designer is David Shuhy and lighting designer is Justin Gallo. Kristina Lawall is stage manager. Costumes were designed by Lisa Lantz.

Big Love contains adult situations, frank language, and discussions of gender and sexuality.

Performances are at 8 p.m. with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on November 24. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors; students with current SU ID receive one free ticket. Advance ticket sales begin November 11, at the Information Desk in the Guerrieri University Center, or are available by calling the box office at 410-543-6228. Reservations are suggested.
