Int'l National Student Receives Sunrise Rotary Award" 

SALISBURY, MD------Sunrise Rotary International in Salisbury recently presented a $500 scholarship award for international students to Ernestine Kon-Bendu of Salisbury State University. A sophomore majoring in nursing at SSU, Kon-Bendu is from Freetown (Sierra Leone).

Following her childhood dream of becoming a nurse practitioner, Kon-Bendu is planning on returning to her home country and opening an obstetrics and gynecology clinic. “I’m particularly concerned with the health of pregnant women and their children,” Kon-Bendu said. “I have seen terrible things happen to pregnant women because of the handicapped health system and lack of education and I hope to provide not only medical treatment, but education, guidelines and treatment to patients with respect and dignity.”

She plans to apply the scholarship towards payment for textbooks.
