'South Korea's State of Emergency: Political Crisis and the Far-Right Resurgence' Lecture April 10

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University hosts a lecture discussing the state of affairs in South Korea entitled “South Korea’s State of Emergency: Political Crisis and the Far-Right Resurgence” 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Herman van Apeldoorn Film Center, Fulton Hall Room 111.
Dr. Taehyun Nam, professor of political science, examines the reasons behind South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol invoking invoked emergency powers December 2024, only for the National Assembly to terminate them within three hours. This unprecedented event plunged the country into political chaos and uncertainty. Nam dives into the constitutional processes that followed and the far-right’s response, which framed the crisis as a battle to protect national security.
Co-sponsored by the Department of Political Science and International Studies Department, admission is free and the public is invited.
