SU Hosts One Maryland One Book Discussion Panel
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University celebrates this year’s One Maryland One Book selection, What Storm, What Thunder? by Myriam J. Chancy, during a panel discussion 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, in the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall.
Chancy’s novel presents a fictionalized account of characters impacted by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti. The book balances the heartbreaking trauma of disaster with the tenacity of the human spirit.
SU’s panelists discuss several themes of the book, including Haitian culture and history, earthquakes and environmental disasters, and political and gendered violence. They include the Rev. Roosevelt Toussaint, president of the Haitian Development Center of Delmarva and minister at the Word of Life Center; Dr. Arnaud Perret, assistant professor of modern languages and intercultural studies; Dr. April Logan, associate professor of English, Africana studies, and gender and sexuality studies; and Dr. Fulbert Namwamba, professor of geography and environmental studies.
