SU Hosts Fraud Lecture with Pulitzer Prize Winner Jake Bernstein November 13

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business Certificate Program in Fraud and Forensic Accounting and SU’s Glenda Chatham and Robert G. Clarke Honors College present the lecture “Money Laundering, Secrecy and Global Fraud” with two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Jake Bernstein 5:50 p.m. Monday, November 13, in the Bennett Family Auditorium of Perdue Hall.

Bernstein will discuss global money laundering, international fraud and the use of professionals to commit financial crime, including elder financial exploitation and high-tech crime.    

The author and investigative reporter’s work led to the book Secrecy World and its film adaptation, The Laundromat, starring Meryl Streep, Antonio Banderas, Gary Oldman, and a cameo by Dr. David P. Weber, SU professor of the practice and lead faculty for the fraud and forensic accounting program. 

The lecture by Bernstein is the latest benefit from a $2.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to enhance fraud and forensic accounting education, received by Weber and the Office of the State’s Attorney for Worcester County to enhance the certificate program’s intern partnership with that office in 2022. 

The grant also provided financial support to create a new Clarke Honors College course: HNRS 311 Fraudsters, Scammers and Hackers: Exploring the Historical, Social, Economic, Political and Ethical Dimensions of Fraud and High-Tech Crime, of which Bernstein’s lecture is a part.
