Resident Director Reflections
Ashlee Guzman
As a Latina woman who completed her Undergraduate Degree in Business Management and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Higher Education at Salisbury University, my time here has been deeply enriching and formative. As a graduate student, I've not only grown academically but also gained valuable insights into leadership, especially in my role as a Resident Director. This position has allowed me to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students, helping them feel at home and navigate the challenges that come with campus life. Serving as a Resident Director has been particularly transformative, providing me with the opportunity to lead, mentor, and connect with students in a meaningful way. The role here at Salisbury University has strengthened my skills in conflict resolution, crisis management, and team collaboration. I continually work to become more of a leader and also a listener and advocate, reinforcing my commitment to foster an inclusive environment. The lessons I have learned while working at Salisbury University continue to shape my vision for my future roles in student affairs and campus leadership.

Being a Resident Director and graduate student at Salisbury University has truly changed my life for the better. Transitioning from a student leadership role to a professional role on campus has strengthened my confidence due to the influential role models and engaged students here at SU. Although working and studying Higher Education was intimidating at first, the University’s strong mission and curriculum have prepared me to serve my staff and residents effectively. I feel deeply respected as a student and staff, and have had amazing opportunities, such as serving on the Executive Board of the Graduate Student Council. Since my first day here at SU, I have felt comfortable being my authentic self as I continue to learn and grow. I am proud of the way I have honed my leadership style, managed conflicts and crises, and built strong relationships with staff and students across campus.
